54 Riders For Jason Bally Memorial 100K Race, October 6th; Pollydore Wins Again

Despite burying the field with a punishing sprint to successfully defend his overall title in Sunday's third Jason Bally Memorial 100K, Guyana's Godfrey Pollydore rode with a disadvantage - one his opponents' wish they had.

"The race was good but I could have put a little more pressure," said Pollydore after winning the 62.5 mile race that attracted 54 riders in three divisions in 2 hours, 26 minutes and 36 seconds. "I just receive a new bike and today is the second day I rode it. I was riding at a little disadvantage, but I proved that I could ride with any disadvantage and ride well."

Recently upgraded to the status of Federation for recognition by the Olympic Committee, the BVI Cycling Federation is a high profile, national organization attracting champions to race in the BVI and in the Caribbean.The BVI Cycling Federation has an active national and international racing program for 1999 and in a further step towards its international recognition is pending affiliation with the Union Cyclists Internationale, (UCI) in Switzerland.

Ghiorse wins season ending East End Wall cycle race

September 29 - Chris Ghirose can lay claim to winning the BVI Cycling Federation's East End Wall/ Gatorade race for the last two years, after successfully defending last year's victory in Sunday's season's ending race that attracted 13 cyclists.

Ghiorse cruised home unchallenged 2-minutes ahead of Virgin Gorda's Anthony 'Zanku' Walters in 1 hour, 26 minutes and 12 seconds, in the race that took riders from the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, through East End, Beef Island, Greenland, Lambert and Little Dix hills, before finishing at the college. Walters completed his two lap circuit in 1:28.36. John Miller sets pace in 10K Cycling Time Trial

Sept 15 - Sunday's 10 Kilometer Time Trial was the shortest, but fastest race in the BVI Cycling Federation/Cable and Wireless National Championship Series, which officially ends on September 30. Unlike previous races, there were no mountains to contend with only the wind. Full story


Leroy meets Village Cay Highway Challenge with one minute win over Miller

Sept 1 - About 22 miles into Sunday's 40-mile Village Cay Highway Challenge, the hills began to separate the contenders from the pack, as the 14 riders returned from the West End Ferry Dock and hit the first hill towards Beef Island in the BVI Cycling Federation/Cable and Wireless Series race. Pockwood Pond Surprise lives up to name with photo finish

There's always at least one surprise in the BVI Cycling Federation Pockwood Pond Surprise race. Sunday was no different. The first surprise was the return of former three time national champion Phillippe Leroy who planned to take the year, showing up in a field that only had a surprisingly low turnout of nine riders. Miller returns to racing with Cable and Wireless Challenge victory

April 28- John Miller made his 2002 cycling season debut on a road bike with a victory over Chris Ghiorse in Sunday's Cable and Wireless Challenge, covering the 2-lap 40 mile course that went from Road Town to West End twice in 1 hour 44 minutes and 42 seconds.

Virgin Gorda cyclists keep rivalry alive on Sage Mountain

April 14 - It's nothing less than a rivalry. After successfully defending home turf, Virgin Gorda cyclists renewed their rivalry with their Tortola counterparts and Anthony 'Zanku' Walters became the second successive Virgin Gorda cyclist to win a Cable and Wireless/BVI Cycling Federation National Championship Series race, after pulling out a two-minute victory over Jaron Maduro in Sunday's Sage Mountain Loop.

Jaron Maduro wins second BVI cycling race on Sunday

March 17 - Jaron Maduro won Sunday's Cable and Wireless/BVI Cycling Federation Prison Break II race for his second victory of the 2002 season, covering the rugged 2-lap 12-mile course on Tortola's north eastern end in 1 hour 00 minutes and 20 seconds.

February 24 - Jaron Maduro won Sunday's Cable and Wireless/BVI Cycling Federation 2002 National Championship Series season opening Jolly Roger College Classic race, with a dramatic sprint finish over Clifton 'Tito' Forbes.

BVI Cycling Federation raises $725 for Billy Lettsome
Four weeks after being injured when he went out for a Sunday morning ride on January 13, Billy Lettsome was flanked by 27 cyclists who took a one hour 10-mile ride from the H. Lavity Stout Community College in Parquet Bay, through Long Look and East End, out to the Airport and return, helping the BVI Cycling Federation (BVICF) raise $725 towards his medical expenses.
